    Description

This is an original, antique December 1861 issue of The Ladies' Repository: Devoted to Literature & Religion. It notably has a Civil War era essay called Hester The Slave by Mrs. L.A. Holdich about a slave woman called Aunt Hester. This essay has been cited by many scholars and historians. Also interestingly Frederick Douglass wrote about his Aunt Hester in his autobiography. The essay was reprinted a year later in Christian Watchman magazine but this is the first printing of it. It was printed just months after the beginning of the Civil War.
Condition: it is complete cover to cover but as you can see from the pics there are tears, stains, tape repairs and early ink writings.
