For sale are an
Antique Yawman & Erbe
(Pre Horrocks Ibbotson) Side Mount Automatic Fishing Reel
.
The reel was manufactured in Rochester, NY in 1903 - please see date on inside rim of the reel.
The patent dates on the reel are Feby 28, 1888 and June 16 1881.
There is another patent date on the control arm of June 1891.
This reel has some surface damage compatible with age and use (see pictures) but is still in very nice condition..
It has the winding key which was patented in 1899.
Given its age I haven’t tried the spring but once and it ran very well when I did.
It measures 3 ½” in diameter and just over 1” in width.
My research into these reels indicates that they were made by one of the great New York reel makers of that era.
This one could be fished and enjoyed or could, with a little cleaning, go into a collection.
