    Description

    RT-2bCC
Full 2 INCH BALL PRE-BROACHED FOR 1/4 " SQUARE TOOLBITS!
    Concave / convex model!
    .50
    NOT A FINISHED TOOL!
This completely cut out frame, (NOT assembled/finished), is made out of 1/2 inch, high strength
ALUMINUM alloy. We decided to go with aluminum, (as are the completed models sold by various companies for big bucks), for several reasons. First, it is much easier for the home shop machinist to machine aluminum. Second, we now cut these with a waterjet machine. This produces a much nicer cut edge than laser cutting. There is no heat distortion or edge tempering. Finally, the overall appearance looks much nicer!
THIS MODEL COMES PRE-BROACHED TO FIT
    MOST
    1/4 INCH SQUARE TOOL BITS!

"good parts, very nice drawings, quick shipping! I have finished the tool, in use"
"These are really neat! (lathe radius turning tool frame) Its a fun project too"
"excellent quality, Nice set of instructions"
The hard work is done for you!  With just minimal machining this frame assembly is ready to be made into a nice, (up to 2 inch balls, at least 2" concave radius), convex / concave radius tool for your metal lathe. Will fit any 1/2 inch tool holder for your South Bend, Monarch, Logan, Atlas, Craftsman, Hardinge, Chinese import or other metal lathes. If you have a drill press or mill with a vise, (or your lathe with a milling vise attachment) you can make one
    !
Just several holes to drill, a couple to tap, along with minimal machining or just filing to remove slight taper at mating surfaces, (mating surface of inner and outer frame is cut slightly oversize to allow for stock removal).  Now with radiused corners for safety, (no more skinned knuckles)!
SEE PICTURE OF A COMPLETED TOOL.
THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE FRAME ASSEMBLY ONLY!
PLEASE, THE TWO FRAME PIECES ARE DESIGNED  NOT TO FIT TOGETHER PRIOR TO MINIMAL FILING/MACHINING
    , (
the 1st picture shows the two parts AFTER fitting),
SO DO NOT SEND THE ITEM BACK FOR "DOES NOT FIT TOGETHER"!
    NOT A FINISHED TOOL!
Why pay up to 0.00 to own one when you can NOW make one easily in about 1 hour using your own scrap bin, (or our small parts kit available in our store).

A rebuttle to the first review...
“The inner yoke for convex turning did not fit within the outer yoke. This was basically a choice by the manufacturer to not dimension the inner yoke correctly, apparently because of some uncertainty about the position of the broached hole.”
The frame is designed to be oversize and need trimming, (due to the slight taper caused by the waterjet cutting process), as stated in the description and yes a choice by us but in NO way “of some uncertainty about the position of the broached hole”. There is no uncertainty of the position of the broached hole. It is placed exactly where it is supposed to be.
“Thus the picture of the inner yoke inside the outer only applies after the new owner has machined it to fit.”
Yes, the picture shows the two parts after fitting, it’s a kit, it needs to be finished as per the description.

After determining the exact position of the broached hole”
?? We already determined that. As long as you take about the same material off each of the four short, (about 2” long), mating surfaces where the water jet left a taper cut surface the broached hole remains centered and this is not critical as you will center the tip of the cutting tool to your lathe’s axis after it is on your lathe!
“There was no assembly diagram. It took a long time to figure out that the round piece was probably the concave tool bit holder.”
There are two instruction sheets, one
    specifically
for the extra round convex tool cutter bar with explicit instructions.
“That round piece also was not ready to fit.”
Correct! Again, it is NOT A FINISFED TOOL as per the description. AFTER the minimal taper is filed off the outer yoke’s mating surface, (to the inner “C” piece), you will have the dimension, or the length of, that the round convex cutting bar needs to be. As per the instructions you will need to remove equal amounts of material, (maybe .010 - .020”), off EACH end to keep the broached hole centered on the bar.
“It could have been done by the manufacturer.”
Well, yes it could have been but then again we could have finished the complete tool if we wanted too, (but we did not want too, some other fine companies offer a very nice finished radius tool and that is not our niche). It was all about offering a tool at the point of which the average home shop machinist could take over and finish it. Saving about half the cost or more of a finished tool and having some fun using their home machine shop in the process. Isn’t that is what this hobby is all about, turning chips?
I have sold over 1,000 of these and this person was only the second person to complain that this unfinished tool was apparently above their ability in about 10 years.
