    Description

This is an interesting old bottle in excellent condition including its original paper label which is printed in German.  The wavy whittled glass bottle is embossed on its two sides with the words Der Lachs.  Translated from German to English the words read The Salmon.  Additionally the image of a salmon embossed on both ends of the wording.  At the top shoulder of the back side of the bottle is aa small seal that appears to have been applied.  The seal is decorated with a star of David, in this case the six pointed star was a symbol for a tavern, and a salmon.  The lip of the bottle appears also neatly applied.  The base of the bottle has a light indented circle.  Danzig Goldwasser Goldwater was made originally in 1598, was popular with nobility.  It contained flakes of gold leaf.  If you look carefully at this bottle, you will see remnants of gold leaf clinging to the side of the bottle among the mostly dried content.  The paper label reads (to the best of my ability) Branntweinu. Liquer Fabrik von Isaac Wed-Ling Wwe & Oydam Dirrk Hekker Danzig Breitgasse No. 52 Der Lachs gegrundel anno 1598. I estimate this bottle held 4 ounces.  The height is approximately 4 1/4".
