The “McClellan Cavalry Saddle Stand” is made with a narrower “Barrel” that fits McClellan Saddles better than the newer round shape barrels used for more modern wide saddles. The length of the barrel also provides space for saddle bags, bed rolls, and other accouterments. It is also designed so that it can be used as an “Every Day” working stand or as a “Display Stand” for showing an “Historic” saddle. The open slatted, barrel design keeps the stand lighter in weight, but more importantly, it also allows air circulation to help dry out working saddles and minimize mold and mildew on the leather. There is a “Bridle Block” with a brass crossed saber “Cavalry Insignia” on the front end of the barrel for hanging a halter, hackamore, or bridle. Brass crossed cannon “Artillery Insignia” for artillery saddles are also available.
The Saddle Stands are made in six standard finishes, “Trooper Blue”, “Campaign Khaki, “Iron Horse Black”, “Artillery Red”, “Ghost Fort (Stained), and “Red Mahogany” (Stained). The Trooper Blue works well with Civil War and Indian Wars era saddles and the Campaign Khaki works well when displaying Spanish American War, WW I, and Confederate saddles. All of the Stands have a rich, highly distressed, antiqued, “Expedition Worn”, patina with a clear satin finish. The Stands are disassembled for more compact shipping. Reassembly only involves reinserting 8 bolts. Assembled dimensions: Approx. 36” high by 26” long at the barrel with an additional 1.50” for the bridle block, by 18” wide at the feet. The “Barrel” section is 8.50” high by 13” wide.
