    Description

Rare, Vintage Lamson Permit Fly Reel - Ex. Cond.
    Original Owner
This reel has hardly ever been used by original owner. It has a silky smooth drag system that incrementally goes up to near full stop.  The reel shows virtually no wear, and is in exceptionally good condition except for a few of the lightest ticks to black finish, and the drag adjusting knob which has very superficial edge ding (see photos).  It has been stored in a cool, dry Montana climate, with no smoking, no mildew, no corrosion.  Historically, various internet info sources say that this heavy duty reel was modeled after other high quality brands of its time, like Fin-Nor or Seamaster.  Some sources say that this Lamson, pre-Sage buyout Series of fly reels, which included the Steelhead, Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon Series were possibly the best reels Lamson ever made.  Internet sources also say that the reels were made from solid bar stock aluminum, and employed a drag-bar system that compressed the spool against a large-sweep cork drag pad.  This saltwater reel is sturdily built for 9-10-11 weight rods, and its weight (11.92 oz. with backing) can even balance out longer two-handed and spey rods.  Used by the original owner very occasionally for fresh water steelhead spey fishing.  Comes with backing, and a handmade polar fleece pouch. Even though it is rare and vintage, reel can still be maintained and repaired by Archeleta's Reel Works of Grants Pass Oregon-- if ever necessary.
