Description
Includes the leather Dare Cribbing collar PLUS additional fleece cover for the collar for you to have as a spare for replacement. (color of fleece varies and may be lighter than the picture shows)The Dare Cribbing Collar is the best cribbing collar we've ever used. We've had first hand experience with this product and used it on a wind sucking / cribbing horse and nothing seemed to work until we got this collar. When we came across this product AND properly adjusted it on the horse all l I can say is.... Best investment ever!!! The Dare Cribbing Control Horse Collar is designed by professional horseman Rusty Dare, and now made available from Schutz Brothers and Professional's Choice. Unlike other collars we've used which rubbed sores on the horse's ears over time, this collar only needs one strap to keep collar in place and doesn't rub on the ears. The Dare cribbing collar can be positioned from either side of the horse and for your horse's comfort, and while is still needs to be adjusted correctly to work, it does not need to be tightened as much as other cribbing collars. The cribbing collar has a innovative and unique patented throat design which keeps the collar in place and puts a stop to even the worst cribbers! Non-rust, stainless steel roller buckles make this a very durable product. We strongly endorse this product as the best cribbing collar on the market that we've discovered so far.
Another nice feature about this collar is that it will loosen when the horse drops its head to eat, which we feel is safer for the horse. It is recommended to check the fit at the horse's normal cribbing position. Also, the fit of the collar should be checked and adjusted over time to endure the best results.
This collar is being sold WITH the fleece cove PLUS a spare cover.
Cribbing block is 3x5 1/2"wide, leather strap is 1 7/8" by 30", adjusts from 27" around to 39" around. One size should fit all horses (additional holes and half holes can be punched for optimum fit)
Double buckle allows adjustment from both sides
Unique throat design keeps the collar in place without as much tension as other collars (still needs to be snug to work)
Made of durable fine quality harness leather and no rust stainless steel hardware
We do not recommend oiling the Dare Cribbing Control Collar because you do not want to soften the throat piece leather corners and diminish the effectiveness of anti-cribbing block.
Note: this is a great product but you WILL have to properly adjust it and monitor and make adjustments as needed to find the correct tightness for your horse. If too loose, this product will not work correctly. If it doesn't work for you, you probably don't have it tight enough. There is a youtube video titled
The Dare® Cribbing Control Collar by Schutz Brothers
discusses how this collar works and how it should be adjusted correctly
.
Adjusting the tightness is a trial and error process but once you find the sweet spot you'll love having this collar. The video basically states the collar needs to be tight to work; it will be looser than other cribbing collars but still must be tight to work. According to the video you want to use a trial and error approach to adjust the collar to make it as loose as possible but snug enough to get the job done. After putting it on, watch the horse to see if the horse stops cribbing and if they do you can loosen it up to see if you can make it looser without the horse cribbing again. If the horse starts cribbing again then slightly tighten it until they stop.. If when you put it on or adjust it and the horse still cribs then you need to tighten it to make it snugger. In my observation on my own horse when the horse lowers its head to eat and drink the neck is at its thinnest and the collar will be at its loosest (that's good). When the horse raises their head and tucks their chin to crib the neck wants to expand and if the collar is at it's tightest preventing the cribbing. The correct adjustment will be just tight enough to stop the horse from cribbing. As the collar ages the leather will stretch some and may require it to be adjusted again. I have tried several different brands and this is by far the best cribbing collar I have used and when it's adjusted properly my horse stopped cribbing.
