Vintage Y & E (Yawman & Erbe)/Horrocks Ibbotson Side Mount Automatic Fishing Reel
.
The reel was manufactured in the USA between 1910, when Horrocks Ibbotson purchased the company, and around 1923, when they phased out production of the reels.
The patent dates on the reel are Feby 28, 1888 and June 16 1881.
There is another patent date on the control arm but can’t be completely seen.
This reel has some light surface damage and some discoloration on the control arm and frame but, given its age, is in very nice used condition.
It has the winding key which was patented in 1899.
Given its age I haven’t tried the spring but once and it ran very well when I did.
It measures 2 ½” in diameter and just over 1” in width.
This is a reel that was designed by one of the great New York reel makers of the late 1800s that could be fished and enjoyed or could be cleaned up and put into a collection.
