For your consideration:  A very early reversing/folding
handle
English
fly fishing reel.  This wonderful old English reel is
quite different than most folding handle reels.  To tuck
the handle away you unscrew the handle retaining
nut, remove the handle, flip it around so that
the knob fits into the notch on the reel's
face-plate and then screw the handle
retaining nut back on.
The handle retaining nut is more of a thumbscrew that
was designed to be taken off easily with the index
finger and thumb.  The knob appears to be made
of bone and has a unique shape.  The reel
has a ascetically pleasing domed front
and rear side-plate and a warm patina.
The reel turns smoothly with no catches or
hang-ups and has a built in click that is
loud and strong.  With all its original
screws and rivets, this example
would enhance any folding
handle fly reel collection.
