    Description

Vintage BOND BREAD Salesman Delivery Carrier, ca. 1930's 1940's
    Stands:  11" high, 24" x 17"
This is a great old carrier that the breadman would use to carry bakery goods from his truck.  The Bond Bread logo appears on both sides and on the base it reads:  "Property of General Baking Company".  Blue fiberboard with riveted metal trim and handle.  Scuffing and Scraping all over, especially to the base (pictures 7,8 ).  It remains tight and sturdy.  I remember the bread man bringing his carrier to our front porch and my mother choosing donuts or coffee cake.  That was always a special day.
Bond Bread was a product of General Baking Co. The name comes from the term bond which is a promise or guarantee of repayment of debt.   The company used the name as a way to say its purity of ingredients were guaranteed like it was home-made bread. William Deininger, president of General Baking Company at the time held a contest in 1915 to award the housewives who sent him the best recipes for bread.
