This is a used Vintage Bakelite Vernley Trout Reel for fly fishing, still packed with line, and a tiny bit of leader. NOTE it has a small piece missing as shown in close up photo, but is still a fine looking reel. This appears to be an early one, with no patent number (see photo with "patent applied for"). It's just under 3" long (a bit less in diameter) and about 1" thick. It's dusty, just as it came out of the old tackle box from North Carolina.
It seems to work fine. The rod mount is chromed and quite rusty, but strong. Check photos closely and message with any questions.

This reel is a fine example of early Plastics Manufacturing it was Compression Molded of Phenolic material more commonly known as Bakelite.
The reel measures 2 7/8"diameter X 1 3/16" wide The spool measures 2 3/8" diameter X 1" wide.
The Vernley Trout Reel weighs in at a mere 3.6 ounces.
