Vintage Fishing Reel: "The Climax" Hard Rubber Reel -- Fly Reel -- Patent 1894

Description

This appears to be a fly reel, given the narrow frame and large diameter, but we have never seen one of these before.  What makes this reel unusual is the hard rubber crank face.
Although not labeled as such, we believe this to be an early Pflueger as it has their foot style.  It has a patent date of July 3, 1894 and the name "The Climax" on the foot.
With raised posts it is a 150 yarder.  The hard rubber crank face has no sign of cracks.  The counterbalanced crank has a wooden grasp.  This reel utilizes dual drags (clicker and friction).
Even though this reel is over 100 years old, it is still in good running condition.  The hard rubber face has some scratches and tiny dings.  There is tarnish and brass show-through in several places (see photos). Internals are very clean.
